USDC Issuer Circle Unveils Quantum-Resistant Blockchain ’Arc’ in Security Preemptive Strike
Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has launched Arc—a new Layer 1 blockchain engineered to be resistant to quantum computing attacks anticipated by 2030. The protocol will integrate post-quantum cryptography from the ground up, addressing critical vulnerabilities in existing digital signature systems that currently safeguard over $2.2 trillion in cryptocurrency assets.
The four-phase rollout commences with a mainnet launch featuring quantum-resistant signatures, initially targeting stablecoin transactions. Security analysts warn that blockchain data harvested today could be decrypted by future quantum machines—a systemic risk Arc is designed to neutralize ahead of large-scale quantum adoption.
This strategic move positions Circle ahead of major networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum, whose proof-of-work and proof-of-stake consensus mechanisms remain susceptible to Shor's algorithm. The initiative aligns with surging institutional demand for future-proofed, quantum-secure blockchain infrastructure.
